Miss Universe Philippines Mary Jean MJ Lastimosa wore this gown by Colombian designer Alfredo Barraza. As many have noted, the evening gown did not fit MJ well. The problem with the gown is that the sudden horizontal cut around the mid-thigh made her look shorter than her 5'7 height. This gown reportedly even had to be altered to fit her better. According to insiders, she would have preferred to wear the Leo Almodal gown rather than the repaired Barraza gown.
Dissatisfied netizens pointed out that MJ should have worn a Filipino creation and even put the blame on Binibining Pilipinas head Stella Marquez-Araneta for allowing Miss Philippines candidates to wear a foreign-made gowns and asked her to give up her post instead.
