Novemeber 29, 2014 - Jamie Herrell won the crown at the Miss Earth pageant held at UP Diliman in Quezon City.
In May 2014, Ms. Herrell represented the Miss PH Earth Cebu. After competing with the other lovely ladies, she earned the right to represent Miss Philippines Earth 2014. In 2008, Karla Henry was the first Filipina to be crowned Miss Earth.
Before joining Miss Earth, she had won three titles last year, crowned Sinulog Festival Queen 2013, Miss Tourism Ambassador of the Philippines 2013, and the top winner of Reyna ng Aliwan 2013.
She is the owner of Mactan Dynamics Dance Company, of course in Cebu. Jamie is from Cebu City but was born in California, USA. She is an acting student at the International Academy for Film and Television at the University of San Jose-Recoletos in Cebu City.
The 20 year old beauty bested 83 other candidates for the Miss Earth 2014 title. Jamie stands 170 centimeters and measures 32-25-28 and belongs to the Kagandahang Flores beauty camp. She describes herself as adventurous and hyper, and she is an animal rights advocate, according to the Miss Philippines Earth website.
During the question-and-answer portion, she was asked by former Risa Hontiveros, "Do you think that we, human beings, have been good children to Mother Earth?"
Jamie answered: "Honestly, in my opinion, we haven’t been good children. In fact, I believe that we are the number one cause of her problems, we are the reason why we're having climate change, and we are the reason why we're having floods. But in return, if we can only help her and salvage her, she will help us back and take care of us too."
As for the country, Herrell said “the Philippines is absolutely beautiful with their high mountains, blue beaches, their amazing sunsets, big waterfalls, the delicious food, the exotic animals, the hospitable people and so much more. It’s hard to promote one eco-tourism spot because the country itself is absolutely breath-taking and you can never get enough of the Philippines.”
The other winners were Miss USA Andrea Neu for Miss Earth Air, MissVenezuela Maira Alexandra Rodriguez for Miss Earth Water, and Miss Russia Anastacia Westropp for Miss Earth Fire.
Other candidates who finished in the Top 18 were the representatives from Tahiti, Korea, Colombia, Scotland, Mongolia, Zambia, Brazil, Slovak Republic, Thailand, Egypt, Mexico and Spain.
