Hermès Bag: not just a bag, it's an investment

There is still a long waiting list for Hermès handbags. This makes them belong to your "investments" because the bags retain their value and get this -- they can even have the potential to appreciate in value.

Why? Simply because the demand for Hermes bags outstrips supply and they are eagerly sought by wealthy (and even not-so-wealthy) bag collectors worldwide.

Some of the bags have popped up in fine art auctions, Christie’s in London featured a selection of Hermès handbags in its Elegance sale and nine sold for more than £30,000 (€35,000) EACH.

The money-makers are the Kelly, made popular by movie star-to-princess Grace Kelly. Another is the Birkin, designed for the English-born French actress and singer Jane Birkin. They have to be in pristine condition though and should be made from exotic skin such as crocodile, alligator, or ostrich. The bags don't even have to be "vintage".

The highest paid Hermes at the Christie’s sale were for Birkin handbags and alligator pipped crocodile as the most desirable leather.

Most exotic skin Hermes bags ever manufactured are for VIP clients only and most are not available for general sale at any Hermes shop, hence, the exclusivity and high value placed on these items.

Apparently Victoria Beckham, or Mrs. David Beckham, is one of the most high-profile collectors of Hermès handbags. Posh Spice reputedly owns 180 bags!!

The quality of Hermès handbags is "superb” and they tend to be passed generation to generation of fabulous women.
