Wowowee host Willie Revillame was cleared of criminal liability by the Department of Justice. It can be recalled that Willie was charged for the stampede at the Pasig City Philsports Arena (formerly Ultra) in 2006, killing mostly elderly women in the commotion.
Acting Justice Secretary Alberto Agra affirmed the decision of former Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez to exclude Willie from among those charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple counts of homicide and serious physical injuries, accounting for the death of 71 people lining up to watch the show.
Several ours before the actual show on Feb. 4, 2006, a stampede occurred when thousands of Wowowee fans scrambled to get inside Ultra in the hope of winning cash prizes.
Willie Revillame is currently on indefinite leave from “Wowowee” after he dared ABS-CBN Management to fire showbiz reporter Jobert Sucaldito whom he claimed was getting too personal with his comments on his radio program.
