Filipino Pride: Manny Pacquiao on TIME Magazine

Manny Pacquiao is on the cover of Time Magazine. Regarded as the world’s pound-for-pound champion, Pacman is on the cover of Time Magazine Asia edition set to hit the global magazine stands this weekend.

His picture on the cover is accompanied by the words: “The Great Hope: Why Manny Pacquiao is more than just the world’s best boxer.”

Manny joins former President Corazon "Cory" Aquino in this league.  Other boxing greats such as Joe Louis, Max Schmeling, Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali has also previously graced the cover. Pacquiao is also the first boxer in 20 years to be accorded the honor, after Mike Tyson.

In this Time Magazine 5-page story entitled "The Meaning of Manny", the article tells Pacquiao’s humble beginnings, accomplishments, and stature as the Philippines' most favorite icon as at date.

Pacquiao is set to fight Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto in an attempt at a world record of seven world titles in as many weight classes. The boxing event "Firepower" is set on November 14 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pacquiao has never failed to dedicate his matches to the Filipino people, and they have responded with an unmatched dedication to support him in every battle.

The Time story also explores his religious side and his entry into the political fray.
